The Notification Addiction: Are You a Slave to Your Phone?

It’s a tricky one, isn’t it?

You want to check your notifications on your phone because you want to know what’s going on in your life and business.

You’re curious to see who’s commented on your posts…

Who’s messaged you…

How your content is performing…

And after a while, it becomes a habit. ?

Every few minutes, you pull out your phone…

See a notification…

Click it…

Read whatever it is.

You get distracted from whatever you were doing or whoever you were speaking to…

And then put your phone back down again.

Rinse and repeat, many, many times per day…

Often unaware of the distraction and problems it’s causing! ?

I remember having dinner with a friend at a restaurant a few years ago…

And he was constantly checking his phone every few minutes.

I didn’t say anything…

But I got pretty frustrated… ?

I felt unimportant…

I felt IGNORED…

I’d be halfway through telling him a story…

And I’d have to pause while he unconsciously pulled out his phone and checked it! ?

After that, I made it a rule…

Whenever I was with friends or family, I would NOT keep checking my phone??

We also said that as a family we would NOT have phones at the dinner table either.

At that point I turned off notifications on my phone for social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and more…

What benefit does it serve to know that somebody just replied to one of my posts while I’m spending time with my family or focusing on a more important task? ?‍♂️

So now, I’m much more conscious with my time⏰

I have designated time blocks throughout the day where I go onto Facebook and social media and check my notifications.

I engage with people…

I reply to messages…

But NOT while I’m with Pippa, Lottie and Ben.

NOT while I’m spending quality time with my mom or dad. ?‍?‍?‍??

So, what are your thoughts on this? ?️

I’d love to know…

Do you think it’s a blessing that we can have notifications turned on so we know what’s going on every few minutes…

Or is it a curse? ??‍♂️

Drop your thoughts below! ?
