(Read) Depression, Mental Health & Building a Home Business

I created a post on my FB Profile the other day, and it had a ton of comments and engagement… so I wanted to share my thoughts on this with you here 🙂

Because Mental Health is so important!

But not many people really talk about it… especially combining mental health and wellbeing and business together.

Most people ignore it.

Many people brush it under the carpet…

But it’s SERIOUS, and I wanted to share a few of my own experiences here 🙂

This was the post I posted on FB…

depression post

Here Are Some of the Comments from the Post

What are your thoughts on this?

I’d love to know… feel free to reply to me as I’m always interested 🙂

Personally I’ve experienced depression several times within my own family…

Both with myself many years ago…

And with my wife after having a stressful time at work, and also after the birth of our second child Ben.

With my wife, the negative thoughts, feelings and blocked energy turned into depression…

And the side effects of that were that she had chronic migraines, very low energy, dizziness and very little motivation for anything.

She barely had enough energy to brush her teeth, let alone go for a walk.

She followed the “spoons” theory which was a visual representation of how much energy she had to use each day…

And once that “spoon” of energy had been used, it was gone… until she’d slept for the night.

So, she had to use her spoons / energy wisely or she’s be unable to lift her own head.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spoon_theory

It was a very tough time in our lives as I found myself caring for her, looking after our two very young children, trying to balance building a home based business… and managing my own mental health and wellbeing…

But we got through it…

And it made us stronger.

After several years of being on medication, my wife was speaking to a friend of ours (Niki) who’d been on a 3 day course in London.

She’d had many health challenges including chronic fatigue…

She’d also been wheelchair bound and had followed the “spoons” theory.

After going on the course and following a simple process where she learned to recognise the triggers and patterns inside her own thoughts…

She REWIRED her brain.

On the second day of the course, she walked up the steps at St. Paul’s Cathedral!

On her own.

Without her wheelchair…

And without a walking stick!

And within a few days of that, she was almost back to normal!

3 years of struggle…

3 days of training…

And she was 80% better!

My wife did the course a few months later…

And I noticed an IMMEDIATE transformation.

She was energetic, vibrant and much more upbeat 🙂

She was back to being a mother again to our two young children, living a normal life!

We were fortunate.

Not everybody is.

Firstly, in order to fix something… you have to recognise it in yourself.

Or at least have somebody kind enough in your life to recognise it in you and point it out in such a way that helps rather than hinders.

I’ve known several people who’ve had depression…

But they chose to ignore it.

And as a result, it kept them stuck…

And it’s such a shame because we all have unlimited potential and possibilities.

And sometimes our greatest blocks are within ourselves.

With our own minds.

Even with our own ego’s…

For the fear of losing face, or looking silly or weak.

So, FIRSTLY you have to recognise it within yourself…

And be BRAVE enough to acknowledge it.

Then, be BOLD enough to seek help…

Go to the Doctor, or speak to a holistic therapist… or somebody who is willing to listen.

For me…

I went to the Doctors.

They gave me a choice:

A: Take anti-depressants

B: Try a more holistic route

For me, I chose option B…

I meditated for 15 minutes per day…

I went for a walk for 30 minutes per day…

And I practiced mindfulness as often as I could…

And for me, that worked 🙂

For others, anti-depressants can help…

At least to get you back to a level playing field where you CAN get the energy and motivation to Meditate, Walk and practice Mindfulness.

See…

Knowing what to do is only HALF of it.

We all know what to do.

It’s the DOING, that’s the biggest challenge…

And when you’re feeling like crap you don’t want to do it!

And I totally understand.

I’ve been there myself… and it’s no fun.

The only problem is…

If you don’t DO, then you don’t GET.

Anyway…

I was just thinking about this the other day, and realise that a lot of people have Depression, Mental Health Issues and Physical pains, problem and challenges…

All of which can cause problems when building a home based business.

So…

If I’m able to, I’ll write some more emails and posts over the coming weeks and months to discuss this in more detail 🙂

Anyway…

Thanks for listening…

Feel free to leave me a comment below and let me know your thoughts… and if you’ve ever experienced anything like this yourself.
